About the designer:
Maarten Van Severen, born in Antwerp in 1956, studied architecture at the art school in Ghent. In 1986 he designs his first furniture and in 1987 he starts a workshop for furniture design with limited, semi-industrial production.
Since 1990, Maarten Van Severen has worked closely with Rem Koolhaas and has also devoted himself to commissions in the field of interior design.
The collaboration with Vitra since 1996 marks a turning point in his career. As a result, he is able to use new materials and reaches a hitherto unprecedented large audience. Until his death in 2005 in Ghent, Maarten Van Severen worked on a series of new designs for Vitra, which have since been gradually taken into series production.
