Alexander Girard (1907-1993) was one of the most influential textile artists and interior designers of the twentieth century.
He created worlds of colorful opulence in which everything was precisely and artfully coordinated, from the smallest details to the big picture. One of Girard's best-known works is the stunning interior design of the legendary New York restaurant La Fonda del Sol (1960). The central motif of the restaurant was the sun, which - in countless variations created by Girard - covered every little detail of the interior.
Architect and designer Alexander Girard is one of the defining figures of post-war American design. The main focus of his work was textile design, expressing his love for colours, patterns and textures. Even his simplest graphic motifs are distinguished by their bright colors and many of his patterns and figures radiate a cheerful playfulness.
