More:
This design lamp was first used at the Association of Finnish Engineers and in the council chamber at Säynätsalo Town Hall.
The beauty of the lamp is based on its shape which is extremely simple.
The lamp is formed by two cylinders and the light is reflected upwards where the two cylinders meet.
This lamp has a perforated brass/black/white ring through which the light is diffused downwards.
The A110 hanging lamp has a height of 44 centimeters and a diameter of 16 centimeters, the cable has a length of 250 centimeters. A110 is available in black painted or white painted steel and the ring on the bottom can be in the same color or brass. The hanging lamp has a regular fitting (1 x E27 max. 60W) and is suitable for lamps from the energy classes A++ to E.
Like many other lamps designed by Aalto, the A110 can also be hung in a group, which has a reinforcing effect.

The Designer:
Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is probably the most famous Finnish architect and designer in the world. In 1921, Alvar Aalto obtained a degree in Architecture from the Helsinki Institute of Technology and began his career as an architect. One of the most important works he got was the planning of the tuberculosis sanatorium in Paimio, Finland. This project also marked the beginning of Aalto's career as a furniture designer - in fact this was the first building planned by Aalto to be completely furnished with furniture designed by Aalto himself - including the lighting. Other major projects completed by Alvar Aalto include the Municipal Library of Viipuri, Villa Mairea, La Maison Carré, and the Finnish pavilions for the 1937 Paris and 1939 New York World Expositions.
