The zebra pillowcase is one of the many textile designs from Artek's ABC Collection. The famous zebra pattern is a design by Alvar Aalto, whose creations were often inspired by nature and its versatile beauty.
This pillowcase with Artek's signature zebra pattern is made of a robust material mix of cotton, wool and polyamide.
The black and white contrast and the exciting animal print come together in a harmonious whole, fitting for a no-nonsense house with bold patterns, together with other textile prints.
Available in two sizes: 40 x 40 or 50 x 50 cm. (56% wool / 39% cotton / 5% polyester)
Note: without inner cushion.
The classic Zebra fabric, originally created by Bauhaus weaver and designer Otti Berger, was discovered by Aino Aalto during her European travels. Incorporated in Artek interiors as early as the 1930s, Zebra is perhaps most closely identified with the iconic Armchair 400. It is characterised by a soft, sensual feel and striking visual depth.
About the designer:
Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is probably the most famous Finnish architect and designer in the world. In 1921, Alvar Aalto obtained a degree in architecture from the Helsinki Institute of Technology and began his career as an architect. One of the most important works he was assigned was the planning of the tuberculosis sanatorium in Paimio, Finland.
This project also marked the beginning of Aalto's career as a furniture designer - in fact, this was the first building planned by Aalto to be completely furnished with furniture designed by Aalto himself, including the lighting.
Other important projects completed by Alvar Aalto include the Viipuri Municipal Library, Villa Mairea, La Maison Carré and the Finnish Pavilions for the 1937 World Exhibitions in Paris and 1939 in New York.
