The iconic Vitra Butterfly Stool by Japanese designer Sori Yanagi is a classic piece of furniture that uniquely combines Eastern forms with the multiplex casting technique developed by Charles and Ray Eames. The gently curved silhouette of the two-seat tubs is reminiscent of the wings of a butterfly - always ready for the flight. The stool is made of maple or rosewood.
Dimensions: 16.5 "W x 15.25" H
Material: molded plywood of maple wood with natural finish (Germany / France) with brass fittings.
About the designer:
Sori Yanagi (1915–2011) was a Japanese designer who had a great influence on both, the post-war Japanese design as well as international modern design. Besides furniture and lighting, the productive designer designed also toys, motorcycles and even metro stations. Yanagi’s designs often merge simple practicality and opportunities of western industrial design with elements and techniques from Japanese artisan traditions – a great example is the plywood Butterfly stool, nowadays produced by Vitra.
Maintenance:
Vitra treats the veneer with a high-quality finish. This makes a soft, slightly damp cloth - with a mild detergent in case of stubborn dirt - sufficient for cleaning solid wood and veneered surfaces.
