Vitra's ceramic containers represent the playful design language typical of the American designer Alexander Girard, where functionality is combined with a sculptural flair. The silhouettes are reminiscent of the traditional shapes of apothecary jars. The pot is a striking element in your home, whether used simply as a decorative accessory or as a striking storage space for keys and other small items.
The original pots, designed in 1952, were turned by hand from wood by Girard himself and today they can be found in the archives of the Vitra Design Museum. In order to make the beautiful works more widely available again, Vitra has joined forces with the Girard family to develop ceramic versions of them and introduce Ceramic Containers in 2021. The hand-glazed boxes are available in various shapes in a range of shades inspired by Girard's color palette.
