The matching stool for the iconic Egg Lounge Chair by designer Arne Jacobsen, originally designed for the hotel lobby of the Royal SAS Hotel in Copenhagen.
Arne Jacobsen is widely regarded as the world's first designer who designed not only the building but also the furniture, cutlery, lighting fixtures, textiles, door handles, signage, glassware and many other details.
With this collection, Arne Jacobsen has created a style that has become characteristic of the 1950s. He made seating furniture inspired by silhouettes from nature. An egg, a drop, a swan or ant, these were transformed into modern design.
The Egg was designed for the hotel lobby of the SAS together with the Swan chair and other furniture by Arne Jacobsen, both chairs immediately caught the eye when they opened in 1958, and were put into production not long after.
The Egg Chair is a real lounge chair in which you can relax. Due to the organic shape of the seat, your back is completely enclosed, and the armrests and backrest form a kind of cocoon in which you sit safely and comfortably. In combination with this Egg footstool, you can relax even better, dream away and take your power nap!
The footstool has the same organic lines as the armchair and therefore has a very soft appearance. The Egg footstool consists of a sturdy cold foam, over which the fabric or leather upholstery is stretched. This is still done entirely by hand, making the footstool a pure piece of craftsmanship. the advantage of cold foam is that it quickly returns to its original shape after use, so that the beautiful shape of the footstool is retained.
The star base is made of aluminum. The footstool is 37 centimeters high, 40 centimeters deep and 56 centimeters wide.
With this design style, Arne Jacobsen has shaped the concept of modern design. The Swan and Egg therefore never look dated and are therefore design classics.
