Arne Jacobsen designed the iconic Swan chair  originally for the hotel lobby of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which was also designed by himself.

Arne Jacobsen is widely regarded as the world's first designer who designed not only the building but also the furniture, cutlery, lighting fixtures, textiles, door handles, signage, glassware and many other details.

With that collection, Arne Jacobsen created a style that became characteristic of the 1950s. He made seating furniture inspired by silhouettes from nature. An egg, a drop, a swan or ant, these were transformed into a modern design.

The Swan was designed for the hotel lobby of the SAS together with the Egg chair and other furniture by Arne Jacobsen, both chairs immediately caught the eye at the opening in 1958 and were put into production not long afterwards.

The chairs are therefore very suitable for your living room, such as a reading corner or a bay window, but people can also wait here pleasantly and comfortably in a waiting room.

The seat and backrest are made of plastic, namely polyurethane. The chair has a central aluminum stand. With this design style, Arne Jacobsen has shaped the concept of modern design. The Swan and Egg therefore never look dated and are therefore design classics.

About the designer:

Trained as an architect in Copenhagen, Arne Jacobsen started the profession way back in the year 1920. His most famous buildings are Arhus Town Hall in Denmark, SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen and St Catherine's College in Oxford, England.
