Designed by Mario Tsai.
The design of these sofa is characterized by oval shapes and minimalist lines. The design of the backrest and seating area is perfectly in balanced. The lightweight frame is sturdy and stable and gives the finishing touch to this stylish seating furniture. The designer sofa with a slightly reclining backrest offers the comfort of a lounge chair, but is slimmer and more elegant than a large sofa.
Formed by two upholstered oblong shapes and underpinned by a lightweight, minimalist frame, the Oblong two-seater sofa balances simplicity and style. Oblong’s upholstered seat and backrest provide the supersize comfort of a lounger, while being lighter and sleeker than an overstuffed seat. The sofa’s fluid form and geometric profile resemble shapes more typical of contemporary art than furniture design. The sofa was designed with an open base that allows light to pass through, enabling Oblong to fill the space without appearing to crowd it. Although lightweight and comfortable, the sofa’s frame forms a stable base that holds it firmly in place.
The sofa has a certain airiness, which means it fills the room in a modest way. The dimensions of the sofa are 120 cm. wide / high, 73 cm. wide and 78 cm. deep. The seat height is 30 cm.
You can choose from different colors of fabric upholstery: Kvadrat Harald 3-192 / Brusvik 98 / Brusvik 33 / Brusvik 08.
The sofa can be perfectly combined with the Oblong lounge chair, creating a beautiful harmonious setting.
About the designer Mario Tsai:
Mario is based in Hangzhou, China, but his work is global in appeal. Mario has collaborated with local manufacturers in China, Italy and Denmark, and now joins forces with Northern to engage a wider international market. Mario is pioneering a new approach to interior design that he describes as ‘soft minimalism’. By that, Mario means that furniture can be streamlined and understated, while also soft to the touch and tactile in appearance. The stunning lounge chair he designed for Northern is all of those things, and more. Mario is currently exploring ways to make design more inclusive, and finding new applications for materials that respect the environment and appeal to society as a whole.
