The Gubi 9464 wall lamp is a design by the Finnish lighting designer Paavo Tynell, it is a wonderful example of turning lighting into art. The 9464 lamp has an elegant copper shade that directs the light upwards as well as downwards - the light directed downwards is softened by a diffuser of white glass.
The copper shade is decorated with perforated double dots and notched edges, both typical of Tynell designs. Originally introduced in the mid-20th century, and re-released in 2018 by the Danish design brand Gubi.

About the designer:
Paavo Tynell (1890-1973) is one of the best-known Finnish lighting designers and his work also has a major influence on modern lighting design internationally. Tynell started his career as a blacksmith and graduated from the Helsinki University of Industrial Arts, where he continued as a teacher.
In 1918, Tynell co-founded the metal and lighting company Oy Taito Ab and worked until 1953 as CEO and chief designer of the company. In the 1930s and 1940s, he designed lighting for various public spaces, such as the Helsinki Parliament and the United Nations Secretary General's Office in New York.
