Design by Ilmari Tapiovaara 1958.
The beechwood Aslak Chair by the Finnish Artek is both elegant and versatile. Stackable, lightweight and exceptionally inviting, it fits equally well in restaurants, meeting rooms or at home. The short, rounded armrests allow it to be easily pulled to desks and dining tables, while the curved seat and backrest ensure hours of comfortable sitting.
Already sketched by Ilmari Tapiovaara in 1946, it was not produced until 1958, when technical advances enabled mass production. Tapiovaara, a pioneer in modern Finnish design, tried to combine comfort with economical use of materials - an ambition that perfectly lives up to the Aslak Chair!
