About the designer:
Kay Bojesen is known for his wooden figures, but it is well known that Kay Bojesen was in fact silversmith. He started his career as a silversmith with Georg Jensen and designed jewelry, cutlery and silverware. Interest in wood arose after the birth of his son Otto. This inspired his fascination with children's games and especially wooden toys.
Kay Bojesen started experimenting with wooden materials and soon he created a series of wooden animals that would inspire children through play. It was important for Kay Bojesen that the animals were not very realistic to stimulate children's imaginations. For this reason, his motto was "the rules should smile".
Kay Bojesen is considered one of Denmark's foremost designers and when he died at the age of 72 he left a great legacy. A legacy of design icons such as the classic wooden monkey, zebra, puffin and "Lovebirds".
