The luminaire has a design based on the principle of a reflective system with three screens, which directs the light downwards. The screens have a matt, white-painted interior that spreads the light comfortably.
As early as 1925, Poul Henningsen had the idea of using a loga-rhythmic spiral to control the luminaire's brightness and shade, with each shade proportionally reducing the amount of light emitted as a function of its distance from the lamp. The concept was extremely flexible: it was not only possible to realize different sizes, but also to design the light with white, silver or gold surfaces.
The PH3-2½ Borne has a top screen of approximately 30cm. The number 3 refers to this diameter, while the number 2½ refers to the ratio between the large and the two small shades.
