Description

String desk combo MDF

Design by Nils Strinning from 1949.

The String shelving unit was designed in 1949 by Nisse Strinning for the String collection of the label of the same name.

The String shelving unit is part of the String Shelf System, a design classic that is considered one of the must-haves in the industry. The String collection from String is a uniquely flexible, easy to combine and expandable wall system that offers you exactly the individual storage space you need.

The combination number 3 is the perfect solution for the (home) office. The minimalist system actually functions as a kind of desk on the wall. This consists of four low metal wall racks that rest stylishly on the floor with narrow legs. In between, there is room in the middle for a desk shelf with a chest of drawers on each side (with two drawers each) and two more shelves. This system offers enough workspace and storage space.

This combination of combi 3 is available as standard in 12 color combinations and consists of the following parts:

2x 2-pack floor panel (h. 85 x d. 30 cm.)
1x 3-pack shelf (w.58 x d. 30 cm.)
1x work desk (w.78 x d. 58 cm.)
2x cabinet with two drawers (h. 42 x w. 58 x d. 30 cm.)

This ready-made String combo in oak W 194 x H 85 cm D 58 cm. and contains 2 storage units, each with drawers and 2 shelves and an oak desk with 4 steel uprights in powder coated brown. All components are held securely in place with the help of the sturdy String steel uprights / side racks.

The total package will be delivered flat-packed to your home in separate parts.

About the designer:

Nils "Nisse" Strinning (December 8, 1917 - May 10, 2006) was a Swedish architect and designer.

Strinning was born in Kramfors and came from a Swedish family that originated in Ångermanland in the 16th century. The name was adopted at the beginning of the 20th century by the family farm "Strinningen" north of Härnösand.

Nisse Strinning was best known for the String bookshelf system that he and his wife, the designer Kajsa Strinning, designed in 1949 for a competition initiated by Bonnier, a leading Swedish magazine.

In the 1940s he studied architecture at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (KTH). As a student, he designed a drainer consisting of plastic-coated metal wires. The drainer, which was called elfa (not to be confused with electronics company ELFA), became very popular and started when he and his wife created the famous String shelf.

Nisse and Kajsa Strinning are rightly seen as icons of Scandinavian modern design and the String Shelving System as a modern contemporary design classic.
