Vitra - Silhouettes Bull steel

Vitra Bull Silhouette.

In 1965, Alexander Girard was commissioned to design the New York restaurant La Reserve and created a series of charming metal figures that seem to dance: Silhouettes. They were to be placed between the dining tables, adding a cheerful touch to the atmosphere while at the same time serving as attractive room dividers between guests.

The restaurant La Reserve unfortunately never came into existence, but Alexander Girard's plans and drawings have been preserved and are part of the Alexander Girard Collection of the Vitra Design Museum. Together with the Girard family, Vitra studied all the ideas developed for La Reserve and decided to bring the silhouettes to life – starting initially with the Bull and Mermaid.

The Silhouettes are supplied in a wooden gift box with printed label and brochure.
