The Hay Result chair is a classic Modernist chair used by many Dutch schools in the 1960's. Originally created by Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld while working at office furniture specialist Ahrend in the middle of the 20th Century, the collection has been relaunched and revised by HAY and Ahrend working together.
The Result Armchair has the same beautiful thin steel base, oak seat and back as the original Result Chair, but is complemented by raised armrests that give the design extra comfort and functionality.
Since their conception manufacturing improvements in both steel fabrication and rubberised plastics have come along. It has allowed HAY to rework the chair to be lighter, whilst being just as strong as the original. A clever join between the more flexible steel back supports and the moulded plywood also allows more flexibility and therefore more comfort for the user.
Created to be adaptable, light and strong, the Result Chair and Pyramid Tables are the last word in cutout sheet steel construction. When initially launched in the ‘50s, it was regarded as a triumph in its innovative use of sheet steel, giving new direction for use in organically shaped products. Today, both as individual pieces and as a collection, it is notable for its sparing use of materials, simplistic construction and for being light enough to move around. These lasting designs manifest functional excellence and aesthetic lightness that have been proved in real environments over several generations.
