The Fritz Hansen Lily chair is a timeless and comfortable design by Arne Jacobsen from 1968, specially designed for the Danish National Bank at the time.
The first model, called model 3108, had no armrests and was introduced two years later at the 1970 Danish Furniture Fair together with model 3208 with armrests. The chair is made of a laminate veneer (consisting of 8 wooden layers) and is the result of an extremely complicated molding process that ensures perfect curves and optimum seating comfort.
In honor of 50 years of The Lily, (also the last chair ever designed by Arne Jacobsen), Fritz Hansen re-releases the original version in timeless walnut veneer.

About the designer,
Arne Jacobsen was born on February 11, 1902 in Copenhagen. His father, Johan Jacobsen, was a wholesaler of safety pins and press studs. His mother, Pouline Jacobsen, a bank clerk, paints floral designs in her spare time. The family lived in a typical Victorian style house. Contrary to his parents' overly decorated tastes, Arne paints his room in white.
Already as a child, through meticulous studies, he showed an extraordinary talent for drawing and depicting nature. He wants to become a painter, but his father thought architect was a wiser choice.
Jacobsen's production reflects his personality: a persistent, perfectionist modernist, for whom no detail was trivial. Like him, his work is precise and warm, Danish and universal, modern and timeless.
