More:
Edge is designed with minimalist design principles for a timeless, yet captivating expression. The table is made of 100% travertine, an interesting and timeless material that is distinguished by its extraordinary structure and unique patterns.
To minimize unnecessary waste, Edge is designed to take advantage of the way the travertine material is sourced. The natural stone is extracted from a travertine quarry and then cut into slabs of various sizes. Edge Coffee Table consists entirely of square travertine plates in different sizes, assembled in a simple, geometric construction. In this way, the different plates are used to get the most out of the material.
The geometric construction of the table casts intriguing shadows and gives the design a dynamic expression. Edge is characterized by minimalist, clean lines, a complementary contrast to the dynamic play and organic appearance of the natural material. All in all, a simple design that shines light on the natural travertine stone and has an extraordinary ability to blend seamlessly into any interior.
About the designer:
Simon Legald graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the summer of 2012. His work consists of both small and large-scale products. Simon's designs are often created in a dialogue between craftsmanship and industry. He also likes to incorporate the techniques required for the structure of a product into the design by visually accentuating it.
"Honesty is what makes a product understandable and what describes the functionality of the product. If you understand the product, it needs no explanation. The essence of my design is that it should be bought and used. Therefore, it does not have to comply with only the functional aspects, but also the psychological and aesthetic needs. For me, simplicity describes the true identity of objects and makes them reliable. In my design I try not to add unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by emphasizing the necessity rather than from hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression."
