The Freeform is a collection designed by Isamu Noguchi for Vitra. The quality of Noguchi's design talent is certainly reflected in the Freeform Sofa: it is completely different from other designs from the same period and, in combination with the Ottoman, is an enlarged sculpture of flat, round river stones. The sleek organic shapes are both fluid and graceful.
Noguchi emphasizes the lightness of the elements with a thin but comfortable upholstery and a choice of upholstery fabrics in natural colors. The Freeform Sofa and accompanying Ottoman were produced in limited numbers around 1950.
Today, the few surviving pieces from this period reach record prices at auction. Since 2002, the group has been produced by the Vitra Design Museum as a fully authentic reissue. The sofa is not only suitable for use in living areas, but also in lobbies, hotels and shops.
