The Stilts side table from Vaarnii has an understated, modest design that draws from the unpretentious and sometimes even simple architecture of lake houses.
These rustic cottages and cabins are common in both Finland and designer Philippe Malouin's native Quebec.
The side table consists of a simple drawer that stands on four legs, or on poles, if you prefer. It is made of Finnish pine wood, characterized by knots and a lively grain. The material is therefore sometimes overlooked in furniture design, but in Finland its abundance has led to it being one of the most common materials for a variety of applications, including the aforementioned huts.
Note:
Pine is a soft wood and will eventually come to life through the resulting dents and scratches, which should be embraced and enjoyed as characteristic signs of aging. Pine wood will naturally change color as it ages (patination), with your pale furniture piece gradually maturing to a beautiful warm honey color over a number of years.
The Stilts side table is also perfect as a bedside table.
