This jacquard-woven blanket, with a lively structured surface, is made of 100% organic cotton and is beautifully finished with fringes. The pattern is reversed on the other side, which creates a contrasting and practical colour scheme.
The Unikko pattern was created in 1964 after Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko, publicly announced that Marimekko would not design floral fabrics. Maija Isola did not accept any rules or restrictions and in protest designed a complete collection of striking floral patterns: Unikko, a Finnish word meaning poppy.
Today, Unikko is one of Marimekko's best-known patterns and is recognised and recognized all over the world.

Armi Ratia, founder and CEO of Marimekko, was a textile artist and one of the most famous Finnish entrepreneurs. She was CEO of Marimekko from its inception until 1969 and again from 1971 until her death in 1979.
Armi studied textile design in Helsinki and graduated with her degree in 1935. She founded her first business in the form of a weaving mill in Vyborg. until 1939, she moved to Helsinki with her husband Viljo Ratia, owner of an oilcloth and printing fabric company “Printex”.
Armi started designing bold and colorful print patterns and within two years Marimekko was born! Although Armi was a renowned designer herself, she became more interested in marketing and was the visionary behind Marimekko, making it one of the most successful design brands in the world.
