About the designer:

Johan was born in the heart of Sweden’s furniture region, gaining knowledge and insight into the design industry at a young age. Following his design studies at university in Stockholm, Johan established an independent design studio after graduation.

The designer embarked on a quest to imbue industrial products with greater personality, creating furniture, lighting and accessories characterised by a human touch. Johan’s first design for Northern is the Gear lamp series, which brings the user into focus.

The lamps are characterised by levers that users adjust manually in order to change the position of the shade. This small detail makes a strong statement in an industry veering towards automation. Although Johan’s works benefit from technology, he still likes to make industrial design feel a bit more human.
