About the designer:
Alexander Girard (1907-1993) was an American designer and architect who worked in interior, furniture, textile and industrial design, collaborating with Herman Miller from 1952 to 1975. Among his colleagues George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames, Girard has been considered one of the pioneers of American design of the mid-twentieth century. His best-known designs include the restaurant La Fonda del Sol in New York and the Girard Foundation in San Diego, which houses Girard's extensive folk art collection.
