The well-known Beetle chair is a unique result of the collaboration between the Italian and a Danish designer: the designer duo Gam-fratesi. The duo Gam-fratesi consists of Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi, and they got their inspiration for the well-known Beetle collection from the insect world. For example, they investigated the anatomy of insects, including the beetle, and based the design for the iconic Beetle chair on this.
Now, ten years later, the studio has reimagined their historic design concept in 3D veneer - giving the Beetle a bold new natural expression and further emphasizing its status as an archetypal design open to interpretation in any number of materials.
The Gubi beetle has always involved a high level of skill to produce, but with the veneer edition, GamFratesi has introduced an even higher level of craft. The meeting point of the two shells, as well as the intersection between the wood and the upholstery, underline the craftsmanship that has gone into the chair, highlighting the precise detailing and graceful shape.
The dining room chair has an elegant look and is also very comfortable, with a backrest that moves easily. A design chair that easily fits into everyone's interior. The Beetle chair combines effortlessly with modern and classic wooden dining tables, or steel, glass dining tables.
The Beetle chair was introduced in 2012 and has since been a huge success in everyone's home, and in restaurants and hotels as well. The Beetle chair comes in many different variants: for the frame there is a choice of thin conical steel legs (in matt black, chrome black, chrome, brass and antique brass), wooden legs, stackable legs or with a swivel foot.
The chair can also be upholstered with all kinds of fabrics and leathers from different manufacturers (including Gubi himself). If you choose to upholster the chair, the chair will also have a so-called piping / trim of the same fabric or contrasting fabric or a trim of leather (cognac or black leather) around the entire cockpit.
The Gam-fratesi design studio was founded in 2006 by the Danish architect Stine Gam and the Italian architect Enrico Fratesi. The studio is located in Copenhagen, and they also travel a lot between Italy and Denmark doing research on new upcoming projects and developing new products. Gam-fratesi already made many beautiful designs for Gubi, Hay, Skultuna, Louis Poulsen lighting, Fritz Hansen, among others
The chair is 87 centimeters high, 56 centimeters wide and 58 centimeters deep. The seat height is 43.5 centimeters.
