Karakter's Aida table lamp is characterized by a fascinating, even enigmatic structure: and was designed in 1988 by Angelo Mangiarotti.
The table lamp has a large white shade that appears to float in the air above the black base of the lamp. In reality, the hood is supported by a thin stem that at first glance also seems quite fragile compared to the massive hood – the trick is well known from Mangiarotti's architecture, as many of his buildings also have slender pillars that support the weight.
Because of this striking and dramatic appearance, the table lamp provides a soft, pleasant and indirect light.

About the designer:
Italian Angelo Mangiarotti (1921–2012) was an architect, sculptor and designer best known for his buildings and furniture that perfectly combine functional ideas with beautiful, sculptural forms and the unique character of natural materials. Mangiarotti graduated as an architect from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1948 and after a few years moved to the United States, where he met the likes of Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius and Mies van der Rohe – pioneers who would all have enormous influence over Mangiarotti's furniture designs and architecture. In 1994, Angelo Mangiarotti was awarded a Compasso d'Oro.
