The hippo by Kay Bojesen is from 1955, now there is also a grey Liliput version.

The original hippo was designed by the designer to playfully guard his pen on the work desk.

The charming heavyweight is now turning 70. With his open mouth and whimsical expression, the Hippo is a figurine that you fall in love with at first sight. It is almost too cute to be true and it is easy to understand why Kay Bojesen was inspired by one of the most original characters from the animal kingdom when he created his famous and beloved Hippo in 1955. Unlike most of Kay Bojesen's wooden animals, which are often seen in soft and round shapes, the Hippo is somewhat more angular in design with predominantly straight and even lines - but excels with a big and loving smile and a lot of strength and a twinkle in the eye.

The Hippo has that unmistakable expression of care and harmony, almost as if the strong wooden figurine is communicating, 'trust me, I've got your back'. According to the archives, Kay Bojesen himself had a grey Hippo on his desk. And this event is being celebrated with two anniversary editions in FSC®-certified beech wood painted in an exclusive grey colour - a true hippo colour - with the large mouth painted in pink.
