Design by Alexander Girard for the Swiss company Vitra.
Since their inception, Vitra has been making striking and functional furniture and accessories for the home and at work. In addition to working with contemporary designers, the label also re-releases style classics from the 20th century. Alexander Girard, a colleague of Charles and Ray Eames, was probably best known for his textile and graphic design, many with a whimsical quality. His work is exhibited worldwide, including at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
The Metal Wall Relief Sun was originally designed in 1966 for the home and restaurant of Girard in Santa Fe, California. The stylized smiling face of the wall relief is typical of his work and reflects his preference for tribal and Latin American folk art. Made in brass, this simple yet powerful piece of art is an asset to your home or work.
The Metal Wall Relief Sun measures Ø60 cm and is made of brass.
