This hanging lamp by Hay the Nelson Ball Bubble is a design by George Nelson. Hay re-introduced this series in collaboration with Herman Miller, this series of lamps were originally designed in 1947.
The atypical shape of the lamp is made up of a steel frame, over which a coating of plastic polymer is sprayed. This surface coating is in between transparent and opaque, giving the lamp a warm friendly glow. The ring at the top and bottom of the lamp is made of coated and polished nickel. Nelson Cigar Bubble is available in three sizes and comes with a white PVC cable and steel ceiling plate.

About the designer:
George Nelson (1908-1986), born in Connecticut, USA, was one of the most influential figures in the crucial early period of modern design. Trained at Yale as an architect and visual artist, he believed that a designer's job was to improve the world, using the perfection of nature's creations as his guide.
