The late Japanese-American designer Isamu Noguchi has won numerous awards during his long and successful career as a sculptor, artist and product innovator. Swiss manufacturer Vitra has put some of its most important designs back into production, including this iconic Noguchi Dining Table.
The Noguchi table is formed from a large round piece of plywood top with a smaller round iron base. It is connected by a series of diagonally placed chrome-plated steel bars, which form a striking criss-cross pattern. This table is both a work of art and a practical living solution.
Originally called the 'Cyclone' because of its apparently spinning rods, the table is one of the most famous table designs of the 20th century. The table has exceptional stability due to the steel bars and iron base, but the design looks light and airy.
The table is available in two sizes: 90 cm in diameter and 71 cm high or 121 cm in diameter and 72.5 cm high.
The table has an open / airy look that makes it easy to combine with the Wire Chairs, which were designed by Charles & Ray Eames.
The table can be complemented by some of Isamu Noguchi's equally admired iconic designs, such as the Freeform Sofa and Akari Lamp, both recommissioned by Vitra.
