Nyhavn outdoor Wall Lamp
design Alfred Homann & Ole V. Kjær, 1976.
The Nyhavn wall lamp designed by Homann and Kjær perfectly embodies the philosophy of Louis Poulsen, focused on the quality of lighting namely, conical shade that provides a comfortable downward directed light; the shade inside is painted white for even light distribution; the rings prevent the formation of lines on the wall while reflecting the light a bit to illuminate the fixture itself.
The Nyhavn outdoor wall lamp was designed by Alfred Homann and Ole V. Kjær in 1976. Nyhavn Wall won a prize in a Louis Poulsen competition for lighting in old and historic urban areas. Alfred Homann had worked on drawings and models prior to the competition, which meant that he and his colleague, Ole V. Kjær, were able to submit material in just five days.
Alfred Homann explains the idea behind the wall fixture: “It was important that the fixture was smaller and more discreet than the other products on the market at the time.” The light is characterized by a conical shade and three anti-glare rings that emit a soft light directed upwards.
