About the designer:
Dorothee Becker (1938–2023) is best known for her 1969 design of the Uten.Silo storage organizer, now produced by Vitra. Before her career as a designer, German-born Becker studied languages and lived in cities such as London and Paris, eventually moving to California in 1960. Upon returning to Germany with her husband, lighting designer Ingo Maurer, she opened a design shop in Munich, which she ran until 1989. Although Becker was a completely self-taught designer, she had a significant impact on the design world—Uten.Silo is a recognized design classic and is part of the collection of the MoMA in New York.
