The aluminum chair is one of the greatest furniture designs of the twentieth century. Charles and Ray Eames originally designed it in 1958 for the private residence of an art collector in Columbus, Indiana (USA).
Meanwhile, the aluminum chairs by Charles & Ray Eames have found their way all over the world as true classics of the 20. Century. The designer couple left the principle of the seat shell in the construction of the chair and stretched a fabric or leather track tightly but firmly between two aluminum side panels. The aluminum chair EA 101 adapts to the body and offers high comfort even without extensive padding.
With these properties, the office chair EA 101 is suitable for private use as well as in offices and public spaces. The aluminum chair EA 101 is ideal for use at the dining table: it is narrower than the other aluminum chairs, the seating position is upright and slightly higher. The EA 101 is ideal for the private dining room, for restaurants or for meeting rooms in your office.
The Vitra EA 101 is also available in other colours, with different upholstery fabrics, as EA 103 with armrests and as EA 104 with armrests and swivel base. In addition to the EA 101 and the similar EA 103 and EA 104, numerous other models from the Vitra Aluminum Group are available.
Vitra has produced the Aluminum Group chairs in the same superior quality over a period of decades. Thanks to this experience, Vitra can offer a 30-year warranty on all chair models in the Aluminum Group.
The upholstery of the EA is made up of several layers, which are ultimately finished with the particularly strong fabric Hopsak (100% polyamide) or leather. If you opt for a leather seat, the back of the seat is made of a Plano fabric. The swivel base made of polished aluminum is equipped with gliders.
Dimensions are: Height: 84.5 cm, Depth: 52.2 cm, Length: 56 cm.
About the designers:
Ray and Charles Eames were an American designer couple whose name is known to anyone with an interest in modern design. Charles Eames was born in 1907 in St. Louis, Missouri. He studied architecture at the University of Washington and, at the invitation of the Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen, continued his studies at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, Michigan in 1940. There he met Eero Saarinen, with whom he entered a competition called " Organic Design in Home Decor" organized by the MoMA in New York. Eames and Saarinen won the competition using a plywood molding technique originally developed by Alvar Aalto. In Cranbrook, Charles Eames also met his future wife Ray, and the couple married in 1941.
