The Nelson bench of the Vitra is a design classic from the 1940s, a design by George Nelson, whose architecture background is reflected in the sleek, functional design of the bench. The airy charm of the Nelson sofa comes from thin slats of ash with spaces in between. These are held together with strong connection and supported by two ash-black black supports. In addition to its function as a chair, the Nelson sofa can also be used as a side table.

About the designer:
George Nelson (1908-1986) was an American architect and designer who is considered one of the greatest American designers of the mid-twentieth century. Nelson studied at Yale University and in Rome, where he became familiar with European architecture and design. After returning to the United States, Nelson started working at Herman Miller, where he quickly took on the role of Design Director.
