The characterful Organic Conference Chair is a comfortable upholstered reading chair by Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen, now available in unique selected fabrics.
The Organic Chair was first shown in 1940 as a contribution to the New York MoMA's 'Organic Design in Home Furnishings' competition. Formally speaking, the Organic Chair was far ahead of its time, but due to the lack of production techniques it never went into series production. Only after 1950 did it become possible to produce and market larger quantities of organically shaped seat shells.
This variant is the Eames Special, Vitra has launched three special versions of the Organic Conference Chair for 2023. The versions are upholstered with a Kvadrat Ria fabric from well known designer Raf Simons, and are inspired by Ray's Eames passion for flower arranging and Charles's eye for detail.

Dimensions: The chair is 72.5 centimeters wide, 93.5 centimeters high and 61.5 centimeters deep. The seat height is 42 centimeters. Glides: Chair is equipped with plastic glides for carpet. Origin of wood: ash wood (Fraxinus Excelsior0 from Western Europe and/or Poland.
About the designer:
Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen (1910-1961) was incredibly influential in shaping the post-war American modern design movement. Born in Finland, Eero Saarinen was the son of architect Eliel Saarinen, one of the founders of the Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Saarinen is best known for designing the Tulip dining table and tulip chairs, as well as the Organic chair that he designed in 1940 in collaboration with Charles Eames.
