The Wästberg Holocene No. 2 is David Chipperfield's minimalist interpretation of the traditional oil lamp.
The core of the lantern lies in its structure, which partially conceals and partially reveals the flame; the walls of the lantern are movable, so it is possible to change its appearance by moving them to the desired position.
Wästberg's Holocene collection is a tribute to fire, mankind's first light source. The name of the collection comes from geology: the Holocene is the geological era that started after the last Ice Age when the actions of man did not yet affect nature.
The aim of the collection is to remind you how important elemental fire has been to humanity and that it still offers ways to create atmospheric and pleasant lighting - instead of or in addition to electric lighting.
