A design by Yrjö Kukkapuro, the Karuselli is one of the most famous armchairs in the world. Kukkapuro began developing the fiberglass chair in the 1950s and took its definitive iconic shape in 1964.
The international launch of the chair took place at the Cologne furniture fair in 1965.
The pronounced shape of the Karuselli chair is the result of extensive experiments. Kukkapuro spent four years working on it – looking for the right measurements, initially using his own body as a guideline. The Karuselli is extremely comfortable and stylistically distinctive precisely because it is ergonomically based on the shape and proportions of the human body. As a result of his persistent efforts, Kukkapuro finally achieved a shape that represented a new combination of ergonomics, new materials and production methods, as well as artistic design.
It was the combination of these qualities that made Karuselli a revolutionary chair of its time. Since its first launch, Karuselli has captured attention, captured the imagination and delighted those who bought it.
