The unique shape of the PK9 chair is characterized by the column base made of three pieces of satin stainless steel that support the leather seat shell.
Poul Kjærholm came up with the idea of the three-legged chair during a beautiful day at the beach and saw the gritty footprint his wife had left in the sand.
During the design process, the Kjærholm's sat in their studio with boxes filled with clay, to find the most optimal and comfortable solution!

About the designer:
Praised for his distinctive style of furniture design, Poul Kjaerholm was born in Øster Vrå, Denmark in 1929. His pieces are considered to have a minimalist form, all embossed with a style that is still famous all over the world.
Kjaerholm started in 1948 in the workshop of Gronbech, a humble apprentice in a cabinetmaker, and further developed his ideology at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. Rather than eschew the majority of his Scandinavian counterparts, the Dane chose steel as his main material rather than wood. "The potential of steel is not the only thing that interests me, the refraction of light on its surface is an important part of my artistic work."
Awarded the prestigious Lunning Prize in 1958 and the Trennali Grand Prix in Milan in 1960, Kjaerholm's drawings remain in the permanent collections of the New York Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. and in many other museums in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany.
