Design Alvar Aalto.
Artek's table 86A is the timeless design by Alvar Aalto from 1935. The top of the large, rectangular dining table is made of birch. An elegant and timeless design.
The Artek tables are based on different combinations of the L-legs and table tops by Alvar Aalto. Aalto first introduced the curved L-leg in 1933 and it became a standard part of his furniture designs.
Aalto considered the development of the L-leg his greatest achievement - he referred to the L-leg as "the little sister of the architectural column". The development of the L-leg was revolutionary because it solved the problem of attaching legs directly to the table top in a completely new way - the leg could be fixed directly to the table top with screws and the result was a solid and simple structure.
With this table you get an iconic piece of furniture that will last for many years and is always in style.

About the designer:
Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is probably the most famous Finnish architect and designer in the world. In 1921, Alvar Aalto obtained the degree of architecture at the Technical Institute of Helsinki and his career as an architect began.
One of the most important works he received was the planning of the tuberculosis sanatorium in Paimio, Finland. This project also marked the start of Aalto's career as a furniture designer - in fact, this was the first building planned by Aalto and fully furnished with furniture designed by Aalto itself - including the lighting.
Other important projects that Alvar Aalto has completed are the Viipuri city library, Villa Mairea, La Maison Carré and the Finnish pavilions for the 1937 world exhibitions in Paris and 1939 in New York.
