Description

Artek A330S - Golden Bell.

Pendant Light A330S "Golden Bell" is especially suitable for dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms. "Golden Bell" was designed by Alvar and Aino Aalto for the Savoy restaurant in Helsinki in 1936 and created a sensation at the Finnish stand of the Paris World Exhibition in 1937. The sculptural form of the light fitting and the perforated lower edge create a beautiful light with a crowning halo effect. The light is made from a single hand-turned piece.

The lamp was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1937, and later became known under the name "Golden Bell".

Alvar Aalto designed the pendant lamp specifically for the Savoy restaurant in Helsinki, the design is based on human and nature-oriented ideology.

The A330S pendant lamp is made from a single piece of brass with a polished, clear lacquered coating on the outside. The white-coated interior reflects a clean, pleasant light.

Lamp design was central to Alvar Aalto's work – for him lighting played an important role in architecture. Lamps were part of the whole that he wanted to master down to the smallest detail.

Many of Aalto's lamps were originally made for a particular building.

About the designer:

Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is probably the most famous Finnish architect and designer in the world. In 1921, Alvar Aalto obtained a degree in Architecture from the Helsinki Institute of Technology and began his career as an architect.

One of the most important works he was commissioned was the planning of the tuberculosis sanatorium in Paimio, Finland. This project also marked the beginning of Aalto's career as a furniture designer - in fact this was the first building planned by Aalto to be completely furnished with furniture designed by Aalto himself - including the lighting.

Other major projects completed by Alvar Aalto include the Municipal Library of Viipuri, Villa Mairea, La Maison Carré, and the Finnish pavilions for the 1937 Paris and 1939 New York World Expositions.
