About the designer:
Italian Angelo Mangiarotti (1921–2012) was an architect, sculptor and designer best known for his buildings and furniture that perfectly combine functional ideas with beautiful, sculptural forms and the unique character of natural materials. Mangiarotti graduated as an architect from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1948 and after a few years moved to the United States, where he met the likes of Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius and Mies van der Rohe – pioneers who would all have enormous influence over Mangiarotti's furniture designs and architecture. In 1994, Angelo Mangiarotti was awarded a Compasso d'Oro.
